Add a computer
A server, or any computer without a screen, runs IXEL One as the ixel command. You approve it once from another device. After that, you set it up from your other devices or app.ixel.ai.
-
On the new computer, run the one-line installer.
Linux or macOS:
Terminal window curl -fsSL https://ixel.ai/install.sh | shWindows (PowerShell):
Terminal window irm https://ixel.ai/install.ps1 | iex -
The installer starts the service and shows a link to
auth.ixel.ai, a code and a QR code. -
On any device, open the link or scan the QR code with your phone. Sign in to your IXEL account if asked.
-
Check that the page shows the same code, and confirm.
The computer joins your devices, under its hostname. It appears in IXEL One on your other computers and in app.ixel.ai.
If IXEL One is already installed, run ixel up to show a new code. In the desktop app, Add a Computer shows the command to run.
Managed computers
Section titled “Managed computers”A managed computer takes its settings only from your other devices and app.ixel.ai. It refuses changes made on the computer itself. That way, someone with access to the server can’t open it up further.
The installer makes a Linux computer without a display managed. To choose yourself, set IXEL_ONE_MANAGED=1 before you run the installer, or use --managed:
ixel up --managedGive it a name
Section titled “Give it a name”The computer uses its hostname. To choose another name:
ixel up --name build-serverRemove a computer
Section titled “Remove a computer”Run ixel logout on the computer, or remove it in app.ixel.ai. A removed computer must be approved again to rejoin.
