Install IXEL One

Get IXEL One from the downloads page. It always offers the newest release.

Needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.

  1. Download IXEL One for Mac and open the file.
  2. Move IXEL One to your Applications folder and open it.
  3. IXEL One appears in the menu bar, at the top right of your screen.

One line installs the ixel program and its background service, then signs in.

On Linux or macOS:

Terminal window
curl -fsSL https://ixel.ai/install.sh | sh

On Windows, in PowerShell:

Terminal window
irm https://ixel.ai/install.ps1 | iex

The installer:

  • downloads the newest ixel for your system and checks it against the release’s SHA256SUMS;
  • installs it to /usr/local/bin when run as root, or to ~/.local/bin otherwise (on Windows, to Program Files as an administrator, or your local app data);
  • sets up the background service, for the whole computer as root or administrator, or for your login otherwise;
  • shows a sign-in code and a QR code. Confirm it from another device: see Add a computer.

On a Linux computer without a display, it sets the computer up as managed: you change its settings only from your other devices or app.ixel.ai.

Set these before running the installer.

Variable What it does
IXEL_ONE_VERSION Install this version instead of the newest
IXEL_ONE_MANAGED=1 Managed: configured only from your other devices or app.ixel.ai
IXEL_ONE_NO_SERVICE=1 Install the program only. No service, no sign-in

For example, on Linux:

Terminal window
curl -fsSL https://ixel.ai/install.sh | IXEL_ONE_MANAGED=1 sh

IXEL One keeps itself up to date. The service checks for a new release shortly after it starts and every 6 hours. It checks each download against the release’s checksums before it swaps it in.

To turn this off, use Update automatically in Settings. To check now, choose Check for Updates, or run ixel update.

IXEL One for iPhone, iPad and Android is coming soon.
