Troubleshooting

IXEL One needs no incoming ports. Each device makes outgoing connections only:

To Protocol Why
auth.ixel.ai and mesh-handshake.ixel.ai HTTPS (TCP 443) Sign-in and finding your other devices
mesh-handshake.ixel.ai UDP 3478 Learning this device’s public address
Your other devices UDP The encrypted connections themselves
ixel.ai HTTPS Updates

Direct connections work through most home routers, mobile networks and cloud firewalls. When both devices are behind strict networks, a direct path may not be possible. One device with a public address (a cloud server, or a router with a forwarded UDP port) helps every other device reach it.

  1. Check both devices are connected (the switch in IXEL One, or ixel up) and show each other as online.
  2. Make sure outgoing UDP isn’t blocked on either network.
  3. Run ixel devices on each. It shows this computer’s state and any problem.

The device was removed, signed out, or its sign-in expired. Run ixel up, or choose Sign In… in the app, and confirm the new code.

You’ve reached your plan’s device limit

Section titled “You’ve reached your plan’s device limit”

Remove a device you no longer use in app.ixel.ai, then try again.

Another program uses port 1055. Choose another address with ixel up --socks5 127.0.0.1:1056.

That’s by design on a managed computer. Change its settings from another device or app.ixel.ai.

Install the program and sign in to it in a terminal on the same computer. The service looks in your login shell’s PATH and the usual install folders. Restart IXEL One after installing.

Allow IXEL One under Screen Recording and Accessibility in System Settings, Privacy & Security. IXEL One asks for these itself when a capture is refused.

The download didn’t match the release’s SHA256SUMS, so nothing was installed. Run the installer again. If it keeps failing, something between you and ixel.ai is changing the download.

System Where
macOS ~/Library/Logs/ixel-one.log (/Library/Logs/ixel-one.log for a system-wide service)
Linux journalctl --user -u ixel-one (journalctl -u ixel-one for a system-wide service)
