Screens

Screens lets you see and control any of your computers: from the IXEL One app, or from a browser at app.ixel.ai. Screens was IXEL Remote. It is now part of IXEL One.

There are no pairing codes. Only your own devices can open your screens.

Sharing is off until you turn it on.

  1. Open IXEL One’s Screens settings.
  2. Turn on Share this Mac’s screen (or this PC’s, or this computer’s).
  3. On a Mac, allow Screen Recording and Accessibility when macOS asks.

IXEL One remembers the setting across restarts. While sharing is on you can:

  • choose what to share: a display, an app or a window;
  • see who’s watching, and Disconnect them;
  • choose the picture: Keep it smooth or Keep it sharp, and whether to send sound.

Screens needs a desktop to capture: a service installed for the whole computer (--system) doesn’t share.

Open a device in Devices and choose Show Screen. Its screen opens inside IXEL One, with mouse, scrolling and keyboard. Full Screen fills your display; Disconnect ends it.

Copy and paste text and images both ways. Copy files on one side and paste them on the other. Drop files on the picture to save them on the other computer.

In app.ixel.ai, open a computer’s Screens and choose Watch. No install is needed.

The screen’s key is sealed to your browser, so IXEL’s servers never see your picture. Where it can, the browser connects straight to the computer; otherwise the picture goes through IXEL’s relay.

Manage has more settings for a shared computer:

  • Picture: frame rate, bitrate and codec (Automatic picks the best both ends support), and recording.
  • Rules: access rules for this computer’s screen. A rule with a mistake is refused, and the error shown.
  • History and Stats.

IXEL One connects screens directly over your private network when it can. When there’s no direct path, it uses IXEL’s relay.

Screens on iPhone, iPad and Android is coming soon, with the mobile apps.
